This article covers the use scenarios when a Mapsly user:

  • builds a route for themselves,

  • saves routes to use them later,

  • browser previously saved routes,

  • loads a previously saved route,

  • permanently deletes a previously saved route.

Building routes for other users and managing them are covered here, traveling preferences are covered here and planning of regular visits is covered here.

Concept: build routes via records of any objects or prospects

In Mapsly you can build routes through up to 50 points including your starting and finishing location without waypoint sequencing, or up to 25 points with waypoint sequencing.

Waypoint sequencing is automatic re-arranging your route points to find the most optimal sequence of points to minimize your total driving time (solving the traveling salesman problem).

A route can contain:

  • records of any object with a location, including custom objects from your CRM,

  • a prospect,

  • an arbitrary location identified by an address, GPS coordinates or the name of a place, like a hotel or mall.

You may have records from multiple different objects in your route simultaneously.

Records in your route may have the same location - in this case Mapsly will automatically group them into a single waypoint.

You can save any number of routes and load them later.

A route can also be (re-)assigned to another Mapsly user any time. Re-assignment of routes is covered in this article.

1- Adding points to the route

1.1- Adding a record to the route

A record can be added to the Route panel in several ways:

  • by selecting points using the Lasso-Add tool:

  • by clicking To route in the record's map popup:

  • by clicking Add to route in the record's context menu in the Table view:

  • start typing the name of a record into the Add point input here, then select the record from the list (it works exactly like the search bar):

1.2- Adding an arbitrary location, or a place by name, to a route

To add an arbitrary location - by an address, GPS location, by the name of a place, or by the name of any record in Mapsly - simply start typing it in the Add point input, and then select your location from the list:

1.3- Add a previously saved place

To add a previously saved location to the route, click the Star button in the Add point block and click a location in the list:

1.4- Adding your locations from your calendar meetings

If your data source supports calendar meetings and you added the meeting/appointment object to Mapsly, you can add all records with which you have meetings on the selected departure date by clicking the Add from calendar box here:

Learn more about using calendar meetings (appointments) in Mapsly in this article.

Learn more about selecting departure date in #3 below.

2- Choose your start and finish location

Use Starting location gray block on top of your route allows you to select your starting point in one click out of the following options:

  • Your current location (this option requires a GPS module in your device)

  • Your default starting location (from your Traveling preferences)

  • One of your saved places

  • An arbitrary location (you can enter an address, GPS coordinates, a name of a place like hotel or mall, or name of a record)

Similarly, use the Finish location gray block under your route waypoints to quickly select your ending location out of the following options:

  • Your current location (this option requires a GPS module in your device)

  • Your default finish location (from your Traveling preferences)

  • One of your saved places

  • An arbitrary location (you can enter an address, GPS coordinates, a name of a place like hotel or mall, or name of a record)

  • Or removing the end location (your last waypoint will be your finish location)

3- Optionally, choose your departure date and time

You can indicate a custom departure date and/or time here:

When your departure date/time is Today/Now and you check the Use traffic data box in the routing parameters (see #5 below), Mapsly will use real-time traffic data when building the route.

When your departure date and/or time are set to custom values and you check the Use traffic data box, Mapsly will use use historic information about traffic on the day selected day of week and time when building the route.

If you're adding your calendar meetings to the route (see #1.4 above), Mapsly will use the departure date to load your calendar meetings.

4- Choose your travel mode

Choose the desired travel modes out of the following options:

  • Car: fastest

  • Car: shortest

  • Truck: fastest

  • Truck: balanced

  • Bicycle

  • Pedestrian

When you select one of the 2 truck modes, you can also configure your truck to improve your route:

Learn more about truck parameters here.

5- Choose whether to use traffic and whether to optimize route

5.1- Traffic data

Check the Use traffic data to use real-time or historic data about traffic when building the route.

5.2- Waypoint sequencing (finding the most optimal order of waypoints)

Check the Find optimal order of the points box to automatically re-order your waypoints to minimize the driving time for the entire route:

Note #1. Only your waypoints are re-shuffled, but not your start or finish locations. If you deactivated your finish location in the Finish location block, your last waypoint is assumed to be your fixed finish location, so it will remain your last waypoint in the route.

Note #2. When waypoint sequencing is enabled, you may have up to 25 points in the route including your starting and finishing locations. When it is disabled, you may have up to 50 points.
